The Common Core State Standards are listed in the weekly lesson plans for English 10 and English 12. The syllabus for AP Lit has been approved by the College Board which satisfies the CCSS requirements.

MondayFinished Rough Draft of Effect of Fear Essay Due at the beginning of the hour.
Students will review the following introductory elements: prepositional phrases, participial phrases, adverb clauses, absolutes, appositives. This info will be the foundation for the quiz on Wednesday. Please review these elements on my English Resources page. Students will revise their essays by adding sentences to their essays that include the introductory sentence elements above. |

WednesdayStudents will take the introductory sentence elements quiz.
After the quiz, students will read "The Dying Girl Who No One Helped". They will write a response to the question: How did fear play a role in the decisions of the people in the story of The Dying Girl Who No One Helped?

ThursdayClass will begin with a discussion about the article students read and responded to yesterday. Then, students will begin reading reading the article "Why I Wrote The Crucible". They will answer the questions in the article as they read. Students will finish this article tomorrow in class.

FridayElements of Fear essay due today. Students MUST have a typed finished draft of their essay. The labels discussed in class must be evident in this paper.
Students will continue to work on the "Why I Wrote the Crucible Essay. Students should expect a reading check quiz on Monday. |

Students will practice more voice lessons. Students will be introduced to AP Style Writing. They will read several examples of student writing. They will be introduced to Magic Thesis Statements. Students will write four Magic Thesis Statements to address prompts given in class. |
TuesdayStudents practice voice lessons.
Students will review the Magic Thesis Statements. Students will have an opportunity to re-write their Garden Party Essays after working with them in class for a short time. |

WednesdayStudents will take a brief quiz on the information from the website. This will be open note. The questions from yesterday will provide a strong direction for the quiz.
Discussion will follow. |
