Julia Fornetti, a junior at Marquette University and a Kingsford High School alumna, returned to KHS to speak to the students in Room 100 about her study abroad experience in Langa, South Africa. She spoke to the English 12 and Flivver Foundations classes about the opportunities available to them through study abroad programs. She spoke to English 10 about the When Classrooms Come Together Project. This project, piloted by Julia Fornetti and Mrs. Sutton, allowed the students at the African school where Julia student taught to blog together and learn about teenage life in one another’s country. Julia’s message about what she learned from her time in South Africa was consistent for each class: “People are more alike than different, but until you experience these likenesses for yourself, you cannot know just how true this statement really is.”
