Lesson Plans for the Week of November 30, 2015

Common Core State Standards Information
The Common Core State Standards are listed in the weekly lesson plans for English 10 and English 12. The syllabus for AP Lit has been approved by the College Board which satisfies the CCSS requirements. 
Most resources for the assignments referenced in my lesson plans can be accessed on my webpage on the respective Class Page tab or on the English Resource tab.

English 10

Monday

Students will be introduced to the field of Rhetoric. They will watch an informational video then read an article. They will summarize the information before the end of the hour.  

Please refer to the Rhetoric Unit for all supplemental materials and additional information.  ​


Tuesday

Students will review Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. They will demonstrate their understanding of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos by creating a StoryBoard on StoryBoardThat

Wednesday

Students will continue their StoryBoards. They are due at the end of the hour.

Thursday

Students will begin Assignment #2. They will read Chapter 14 of Upton Sinclair's The Jungle and "The Most Dangerous Job."

They will create a graphic organizer modeled after the example on the Rhetoric Unit Page.

Monday 

Students will be introduced to the Things Fall Apart Unit.  Students will understand the cultural context. They will read the first chapter for homework.

Read:
  • "After Empire" by Ruth Franklin
Answer:
  • Who is Chinua Achebe? Describe his background and life.
  • Why is Things Fall Apart relevant? Why is it studied today? 
  • What is the context of the novel? What is it about? How is the story constructed? 

Tuesday

Students will write a twenty minute essay response to one of the questions from yesterday's lesson. 

Students will continue reading Things Fall Apart. 



Wednesday

Quiz today and Discussion to follow quiz. 

Thursday

Students will work on a vocabulary activity for Things Fall Apart.
