Lesson Plans for the Week of November 10, 2014

Common Core State Standards Information
The Common Core State Standards are listed in the weekly lesson plans for English 10 and English 12. The syllabus for AP Lit has been approved by the College Board which satisfies the CCSS requirements. 
Most resources for the assignments referenced in my lesson plans can be accessed on my webpage on the respective Class Page tab or on the English Resource tab.

English 10

Monday

Students will practice commas using NoRedInk.com





Tuesday

Students will practice comma rules with their Good Samaritan Essays. 



 
 

Wednesday

Students will continue working on adding sentence variety and parallelism to their essays. Essays due on Friday. 
  
 
 

Thursday

Students will spend the hour working on/ reviewing several grammar concepts. 

 

 

Friday

GENIUS HOUR! 

Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition

Monday

Students will have time in class to work in their Oedipus Rex groups or to complete their line explication activity.

Each group will examine a different section of the play to discover how words related to sight and blindness are used throughout the play. The groups will create a graphic organizer, utilizing the following categories: Sophocles’s Words, Literary Technique Utilized, Context, Significance to Plot, Character, and Theme.

Tuesday

Students will have time to work in their Oedipus Rex groups or to complete their line explication activity.  

 Explication of Lines” Either as you’re reading or after you’ve completed reading, choose six very powerful lines from the play, one for each category. Note where they appear in the play, so that you can refer to them later: lines that foreshadow later events, lines that reveal a conflict, lines that reveal a character’s personality, lines that explain why a character behaves that way, lives that refer to past events, lines that seem like sage advice. Prepare a brief explication of each of the lines chosen, relating them to the category, to the specific scene in which they appear, and to the work at large.

Students will continue studying Oedipus Rex.

 Students will complete a study guide for Act II in class. Due at the end of the hour.
