No profit grows where is no pleasure ta'en / In brief, sir, study what you most affect.
(William Shakespeare)
Many years ago, as an English undergraduate student at Northern Michigan University, I enrolled in a course called "The Teaching of Writing." This course changed the trajectory of my life. My previous plan to attend law school was immediately altered when I discovered my calling and my passion - Education. After graduation, I pursued a teaching degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English and Political Science. I earned my certification in 2001, was hired to teach English at Kingsford High School in Kingsford, MI, and began my adventure. Since embarking on my career at KHS, I have taught a medley of English and Political Science courses including: Government, Communication Skills 9-12, English 9-12, World History, Flivver Foundations (a test prep/career readiness course), and Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition. During my tenure at KHS, I married, had two children, earned a Masters of Arts in Education, and completed an Advanced Placement Summer Institute. Recently, the opportunity presented itself to extend my passion for education into the School Guidance realm. In March of 2017, I became a full time student again as I pursue another Master's Degree in School Counseling. I love working with young people and am grateful each day to have the opportunity to do exactly what I know I was born to do. My greatest wish is to lead my students to their passions - whatever those may be and wherever those may lead.
